Stage 1: Passo del Tonale

Athletes will face high-altitude alpine terrain, ideal for a technical and spectacular start to the week. The courses will run through wide open grassy areas, characterized by excellent runnability, alternating with forested sections rich in detail that will demand precision, focus, and smart route choices.

Passo del Tonale (1,884 m) is an alpine mountain pass in the Southern Rhaetian Alps that connects Val di Sole with Upper Val Camonica, Located between Trento and Brescia, it marked the boundary between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918.

Today, Passo del Tonale is a well-known summer and winter tourist destination, and a starting point for numerous hiking and mountaineering routes set in a highly valuable natural environment. The area also preserves many traces of the First World War, with historical sites, museums, and themed trails dedicated to the so-called White War.

Passo del Tonale is one of the major winter sports resorts in Trentino and Lombardy, offering over 100 km of ski slopes, and is easily accessible via the SS42 Tonale and Mendola road. It is also a landmark location for cycling, having been climbed many times by the Giro d’Italia since 1933.
